Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait benhaddou – Ouarzazatte

At the morning in Marrakech, the driver is going to take you in a dramatic car driving through Tizi-N-Tichka, Morocco’s highest rout (2260 m). The trip from marrakech will be excitingly amazing, thanks to panoramic sights of the Atlas heights, and the slopes, which, are peppered with the charming Berber villages. The journey is also about visiting the historical Kasbah of Telouat, a luxurious residence, headquarter of a powerful tribe called Glaoui.

The day tour from Marrakech, will become more interesting when you get into the historical Kasbahs especially Ait Benhadou Kasbah. Ouarzazatte’s historical Kasbahs have not only inspired moviemakers but also hosted most of the famous films like Gladiator and Lawrence of the Arabia, Game of thrones that were filmed there. Because of the desert atmosphere and the UNESCO classification of Ait Benhadou to be a world legacy, it receives hundreds visitors each day. The desert journey will stop in Ouarzazatte where you will have dinner, and pass your night.

Day 2: Ouarzazatte – Rose valley – Dades gorge

After having breakfast in Ourzazatte, you will have the chance to visit the south studious, where you can closely watch the cameras, accessories, and other materials that movie makes used while filming. More than that, you can visit the Sunday market (souk al had) where tourists and Moroccans alike can buy food, handcrafts with good prices. The city of Kasbahs offer you the most entertaining visits to the historical mud brick Kasbahs, like Taorirt Kasbah.

The next destination is the Rose valley. The Rose valley or the Kelaa of Magouna is famous by the valley of rose, because it produce more than the half of the Moroccan dried rose, and it includes thousands array of rose fields. From the Rose valley, our journey will continue into the high cliffs of the odd shapes of erosions rock in Dades valley. Please not that the gorge of Dades valley are dramatically amazing for the sight. Night stay, dinner and breakfast at the hotel.

Day 3: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

From the Dades Gorge we will transfer into another equally gorge called Todra Gorge, the highest oasis in morocco (300m). The height of Todra Gorge is not only the main reason that makes it impressive and breathtaking, but also the views of the changing face of the honey colored hues attract many visitor from different places around the world. Marzouga is a beautiful area coved with golden sands, within Marzouga there is a vast sea sand, which, extends as far as you can see. You will discover all the amazingly stunning places on your own when you reach Merzouga.

During our day trip from Marrakech  to Marzouga, we will explore the area a little bit in the morning. So that we will visit the ancient city of Risani, which flourished between the 8th century and the 14th century. Moreover, we will visit the small village of Alkhamila in order to watch and listen to the descendants of the black slaves playing the typical local music of the region “Gnawa”. Later on, we will visit a very beloved place for photographers called Erg chebbi. The panoramic views that you will find there, will explain to you whey Erg chebbi is a touristic direction. The trip and walking among the sandy dunes will be better on camel’s back. You will spend your night in either a desert camp or a hotel.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi – Merzouga – Midelt – Fez

At the morning, we will return to Merzouga after having our breakfast under a stunning sunrise over the golden sandy dunes, the return will be on camel backs. Before our departure toward Fes, you will have a relaxing shower at your hotel at Merzouga. The driver will take you directly through the Ziz Valley Gorge and via Azrou and the cedar forests into Fes city, the cultural capital, one of the iconic oldest medieval Islamic cities around the world. As you are passing by the historical walls and the gates of the city, you will go back in time with your memory and travel beyond years and years of historical achievements of kings and sultans, from different dynasties, who used to rule over Morocco. The 8th century streets have not changed, they still perfectly strong and designed as they used to be before.

The high walls protecting the courtyard from the midday hot sun are also a sign of the unique system of designing that Moroccans used to develop. Al the theosophical colleges, beautiful mosques and the captivating souks revealing their goods onto the pavement are all part of the scene. Your walking tour will cover the most interesting places, like ENEJJARINE workshops. You can also visit the oldest university in the world, AL Qarawiyyin University was built in 859 AD, and it is considered the first scientific institution that established specialized scientific chairs and scientific degrees in the world. As you are walking around the city, you will pass by the merchant’s shop belonging to the 14th century. Finally yet importantly, you will have the chance to have a close look at the Tanneries, where they stain leather in vast striking colored dyes.
